Facebook to Unveil New News Feed
Facebook has announced it will introduce a new look for its “News Feed” on March 7th, the latest in the giant social networking site’s many (sometimes unannounced) revamps.
In an invitation emailed to reporters, the new News Feed will be launched during a media event at Facebook’s Menlo Park, California, headquarters. The event will be the 1-billion-member social network’s second high-profile product event this year, after the introduction of Facebook’s social search feature in January.
The News Feed is what every Facebook user sees first when they log in. It displays a stream of photos, videos, and comments uploaded from a user’s network of friends. Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg has said that the News Feed is one of the three “pillars” of the service, along with search and Timeline.
The last time the News Feed received a major update was in September 2011, incorporating ads directly into the feed and a shift of focus to creating “mobile first experiences,” as more uses access Facebook through mobile devices than on desktop computers.
